Iona became BBC Morning Live’s resident financial expert in 2022 and now appears on the programme every week to give more than a million viewers helpful information about all things money.

Whether it’s her Cash Clinics live from the show’s Manchester studio or her reports on issues like money muling and bank branch closures, she’s won acclaim for her friendly demeanour and rigorous advice.

Previous experience...

Over more than a decade, Iona has appeared extensively on TV and radio, with appearances including Question Time, Newsnight, Woman’s Hour, ITV Tonight and Panorama. She presented two in-depth investigations for File on 4 in 2023 and special editions for Radio 4’s Moneybox on subjects like financial education and fraud.

She joined the economist Paul Johnson for a special four-part Radio 4 series, The Austerity Audit, in 2020, and has been a regular face on youth-focused programmes like BBC Bitesize and BBC Radio 1’s Life Hacks. Podcast appearances have ranged from FT’s Money Clinic and the Spectator’s Edition podcast to Alonement with Francesa Specter and Backing Brilliant Business with Saira Khan.

Iona has also been a prolific freelance journalist, writing for almost every national newspaper during her 13 year career. Her work has included regular features for the The Times and Financial Times, a weekly column for the i paper and op-eds in titles as diverse as The Spectator and The Guardian. In addition, she has been a staple of online youth and female-focused media, with appearances including Stylist, British Vogue and Refinery 29.

Iona was shortlisted for the Georgina Henry Award at the UK Press Awards in 2020 by Women in Journalism, specially commended for her i column at the 2023 Headlinemoney Awards and was named IPSE’s Freelancer of the Year in 2018.

Published author...

Iona has also written two books – Spare Change and Own It! How our generation can invest our way to a better future.

The latter was praised by the Times as a “gem” for millennials who can rely on it to be a “sensible and sober guide” to the world of money.
