Iona became BBC Morning Live’s resident financial expert in 2022. Whether it’s her Cash Clinics live from the show’s Manchester studio or her reports from all over the UK on issues like money muling and bank closures, she’s won acclaim for her warm demeanour and spot-on advice, and was named Financial Journalist of the Year 2025 by the Institute for Financial Wellbeing.

She’s proud to be part of the Morning Live family, always enthusiastically taking part in the show’s flagship Strictly Fitness segments and various charity partnerships, including judging the BBC Make a Difference Awards. As the UK’s highest rated daytime magazine show, Morning Live provides Iona with an important platform to discuss and champion issues close to her heart, such as financial inclusion.  

Online, on the airwaves, in the papers

Since 2025, Iona has been the presenter of A Little Bit Richer, the L&G podcast and video show which demystifies finance with a range of top guests from across the world of finance. It went top 50 in the Apple charts in Autumn 2025, reaching no.2 for education podcasts.

She also has columns in two national newspapers – a weekly slot in The Observer, the world’s oldest Sunday title, and a monthly op-ed in The Metro, read by up to two million commuters.

For more than a decade, Iona has appeared extensively on TV and radio. Her most recent media appearances include BBC NewsPanorama and a range of Channel 5 documentaties like Loyalty Cards: Are They a Rip-Off? 

Other appearances have included Question Time, Newsnight, Woman’s Hour and ITV Tonight. She presented two in-depth investigations for File on 4 in 2023 and special editions for Radio 4’s Moneybox on subjects like financial education and fraud.

She joined the economist Paul Johnson for a special four-part Radio 4 series, The Austerity Audit, in 2020, and has been a regular face on youth-focused programmes like BBC Bitesize and BBC Radio 1’s Life Hacks. Podcast appearances have ranged from FT’s Money Clinic and the Spectator’s Edition podcast to Alonement with Francesca Specter and Backing Brilliant Business with Saira Khan.

She has written for almost every national newspaper and her work has included regular features for the The Times and Financial Times, a weekly column for the i paper and op-eds in titles as diverse as The Spectator and The Guardian. In addition, she has been a staple of online youth and female-focused media, with appearances including Stylist, British Vogue and Refinery 29.

Iona was named Financial Journalist of the Year by the Institute for Financial Wellbeing, was shortlisted for the Georgina Henry Award at the UK Press Awards by Women in Journalism, specially commended for her i column at the Headlinemoney Awards and named IPSE’s Freelancer of the Year in 2018.
